other pet hints

1. keep bugs out of pet dishes. use an aluminum pie pan with about 1/2 in. of water to create a moat around pet's food dish.
2. litter box. put thin layer of baking soda under litter to absorb the odor. or mix with litter as changing it.
3. keep fido's home dry. weatherproof doghouse: make a rain flap by nailing a carpet remnant over the entrance to your dogg's domicle. in colder areas, use smaill pieces of carpet to line interior walls and the floor to add insulation.
4. make a scratching post. staple carpet scarps to a post or board and place near kitty's favorite target. for freestand, nail a board to bottom of post to serve as base.
5. crown catnip plants. put crown of chicken wire over plant near ground. as catnip grows thru wire and gets eaten, roots will remain intact. tuck edges in securely. will come back every year.
6. keep pets off furniture. place piece of aluminum foil on seat cushions. esp. dogs, will not like sound and will learn to stay off.
7. esp. for dogs. use aluminum pie pans along counter edges or sofa back when not home. noise with scare them off.
8. take the smell off your pet. esp for dogs. can use for cats. rub in baking soda into coat. give thorough burshing. removes smell and leaves coat shiny and clean.
9. cleaning ears. a. use cotton ball dipped in solution of tsp baking soda in 1 c. warm water to gently clean ears. b. use cotton ball dipped in baby oil to clean ears.
10. keep bugs from food bowl. pace border of baking soda around pet's food bowl.
11. iurine odor on mattresses. dampen area, run in some borax. let dry. vacuum up powder.
12. make cat feel at home. new home? adult cat. spread little butter on one of front paws. cats love taste of butter will come back for more.
13. roll pills in butter. will slide down throat easier. plus cats love the taste, make easier to get them to take it.
14. elimate urine stains. blot up urine. pour club soda over stained area and immediately blot again. club soda get s rid of stain and help reduce foul smell.
15. keep kitty out of garden by spreading a pungent mixture of orange peels and used coffee grounds around plants. great fertilizer.
16. dry shampoo. esp. for dogs. rub cornstarch into coat and brush out. will fluff up coat.
17. pet hair on clothing. take duck tape and wrap around hand sticky side out. roll against clothing in rocking motion til hair is up. don't wipe, can affect the nap.
18. pet hair on furniture. take a fabric softener sheet and wipe on furniture. throw away.
19. wet pet odor. when pet comes in from the rain, use used fabric softener sheets to dry off.
20. homemade cat toy. drop few beans, spoonful dry rice or other small objects that will not hurt kitty into an empty film canister, shanp on lid.
21. remove cat hair. put on rubber glove and wet it. rub against upholstery. hair sticks to glove. test upholstery first.
22. cool water for pets. during hot weather. put ice in water dishes.
23. for outdoor pets in extreme heat. freeze 2-liter bottles with water. put where pet lays. will love to have close to keep them cooler. will have to check to replace every couple of hours.
24. neutralize cat-box odor. cut couple lemons in half. place cut side up on dish in room.
25. traveling with pets or pet staying with caregiver. use disposable margine tubs. fill with food and water. put each meal in different bowl to be used and discard as needed.
26. keep pets from garden by scattering old moth balls in it.
27. correct pet 'mistakes'. pet not respecting your property-chewing, rearing, or soiling- leave onion slices where damage done.
28. keep kitties from using your yard as toilet. mixture of orange peels and coffee grounds in area. can moisten with water to make the hint known.
29. ring pet food bowl with petroleum jelly to keep ants out of food.
30. put petroleum jelly on cracked paws to stop pain.
31. line litter box with open plastic bag. remove, tie, trash.

35. put reflector top on pet collar so drivers will see pet at night.
36. skunk spray. douse affected area thouroughly with undiluted tomato juice. sponge some on pet's face avoiding eyes. wait few minutes. shampoo. repeat as necessary over several days til smell gone.
37. repeal pets from garrdens. soak several recycled rags in white vinegar. place on stakes around veggies. resoak every 7-10 days.
38. keep kitties from where you don't want them. a room, furniture. sprinkle full-strength distilled white vinegar around area or on object itself.
39. unmark pet's spots. mop floor with equal parts vinegar and warm water. druy with cloth or paper towel. carpets, rugs, upholstery. test first. pour bit of undiluted vinegar over spot. blot up with towel. reapply. let air-dry.
40. cleaning ears. swab ears with cotton ball or soft cloth dabbed in solutino of 2 parts vinegar and 1 part water. keep them clean and help deter ear nites and bacteria. soothes minor itches from mosquito bites. DO NOT USE ON OPEN LACERATIONS.
41. skunk odor. bathe in mixture of 1/2 c. white vinegar, 1.4 c. baking soda, and 1 tsp. liquid soap in 1 qt. 3% hydrogen peroxide. work solution deep into coat, wat for few min. to soak in, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
42. skunk odor. bather in equal parts water and vinegar. repeat using 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. follow by good rinsing.
43. chewing pets. mostly for puppies. spray wd-40 on cords.
44. clean paw marks off patio furniture or hood of car. spray with wd-40. wipe with clean rag.
45. spray wd-40 over flower beds to keep animals from digging. 1 or more times over season.
46. remove pet poo from bottom of shoes. spray with wd-40.. use old toothpick to clean crevices. rinse with cold water.
47. prevent gas and diarrhea. add 2 tsp yogurt to food weighing up to 14 lbs. 1 tbs. 15-34 lbs. 2 tbs. 35-84 lbs. 3 tbs over 84 lbs.

1. mix juice of 4 lemons (along with rinds) with 1/2 gal (2 liters) water and wash floors with it. 2. in dog house, wash down interior walls and floor every few weeks with solution of salt water.
3. put few drops of dish soap in a shadow pam of water on the floor. put a lamp next to it. fleas will come toward the light and jumjp into the water and drown.
4. put equal parts vinegar and water in a spary bottle. apply directly to dog's coat and rub in. can be applied to cats but might have problems. they don't like the smell
5. remove ticks by dabbing with rubbing alcohol before pulling off. grab tick as close to dog's skin as can and pull straght off.
6. in the yard, spread icecream salt in yard to repeal fleas.
7. put cedar in bedding.
8. to get fleas off pet. put dishwashing soap or shampoo all over pet. let sit couple of min. rinse off very well. to protect head from fleas and water, put baby oil around head.
9. when washing your pet put baby oil on head and upper neck. will protect your pet from the fleas while wahing. can pull or rinse them off while protecting your pet from getting soap in eyes.
10. add tsp. apple cider viengar to pet's water. provides nutrients to diet, gives shiner, healthier-looking fur, natural deterrent to fleas and ticks.
